This business is volatile. As much as I try to come to terms with it and hum myself many consoling thoughts - it is still a bit of a game. Is it seasonal? Is it harder as the economic situation in the UK sinks deeper? Is it just luck?
Most may think I’m busy non stop. As a freelancer in London it sometimes feels like that in my head for sure. A constant hustle. But the flip side also really exists. Not being busy enough, waiting for responses and cancelling events that seemed to be super popular on social media but actual bookings falling through. That constant stability we were taught to expect seems like a real myth!
So here’s me writing to you quiet Thursday when my Friday supperclub in London (the first one in 2025) is simply not full enough.
It feels a bit too last minute to cancel on my other four guests but also events with just a few guests will never feel just right. Of course the food will be there and supperclubs are all about food. But they are also about stories, atmosphere and connecting people together. And that can sometimes fall short when guests may not realise that this business is so different to a restaurant and so much more depends on every single event.
