Independence Day with Numra & Indo Mex night with Alexa!
The month of creative collaborations and delving into our rich culture and ethos of no waste.
The Pakistan and India Independence Day Supperclub.
Same Same. But Different!
Numra's food is rooted in her Pakistani heritage at Empress Market. Sohini celebrates her Bengali culinary traditions through her own evolved cooking at Smoke and Lime.
They always love eating each other’s food and cooking in the same space. The Pakistan and India Supperclub is the first time they have designed a menu to serve together.
At this special collaboration feast, Numra and Sohini cook some of their favourite desi food with their own unique style and flare. Some dishes offer the same ingredient two ways with varying techniques, others pair two recipes to create something completely new!
It only made sense to host this feast over two special days - Pakistan and India’s Indpendence Days. The respective countries often use the public holidays to assert their national identities and distinguish them from the other. Numra and Sohini choose to celebrate what brings them closer, the similarities they bond over and the new lessons they can grow from together.
For this event Sohini and Numra have paired with Paaras Abbas, a London-based sustainable textile artist from Karachi, in an exploration of how the ingredients of desi cooking culture can be repurposed beyond the kitchen into clothing and textiles.
Paaras will facilitate a natural dye workshop using ingredients that are staples in desi kitchens including onion skins, turmeric, and tea. Participants will use a range of materials such as rubber bands, clamps, and chopsticks to make patterns on tea-towels with the dyes. They will be able to take the towels home with them at the end of the supper club.
The Pakistan and India Independence Day Supperclub celebrates friendship through food. Come and celebrate with us.
